NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management

The NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management provides a broad understanding of fire safety issues that affect workplaces and enables fire risks to be managed effectively. As well as covering a range of workplace fire hazards and methods of control, it includes the UK legislation relating to the management of fire safety at work.

Previous fire safety knowledge is required and it is an excellent course for:

  • Managers, supervisors and worker representatives.
  • Fire risk assessors in low risk workplaces.
  • Those with fire responsibilities at work.
  • Manager of buildings or facilities where fire safety is an important issue.
  • Those wishing to start a career in fire safety.

The NEBOSH National Fire Certificate is particularly useful for those with responsibilities to conduct fire risk assessments and to manage fire risk as it enables them to carry out fire risk assessments of low risk workplaces and identify the range of fire protective and preventive measures required.

NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management

The NEBOSH National Fire Certificate provides a valuable overview of fire safety risk management and is a sound basis for further professional study, such as the NEBOSH National Diploma, General Certificate and Construction Certificate. It also meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (TechIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH – www.iosh.co.uk) and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Managements (IIRSM – www.iirsm.org).

As the NEBOSH National Fire Certificate includes UK legislation it is most suitable for those who intend to work in the UK, the NEBOSH International Certificate is designed for those who intend to work outside the UK.

ASSESSMENT

The qualification is divided into three assessed units, each of which is assessed separately.  Assessment is by two written examinations (one for each of the Units NGC1 and FC1) and a work-based practical examination (Unit FC2). All units must be completed within 5 years to achieve the full NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate.

FC1 examinations take place in February, May, August, and November. Study programmes are designed to lead towards these dates. Examinations for in-house courses can be arranged with NEBOSH on demand, for a date to suit the learning programme.

Students are awarded a unit certificate for each unit of assessment successfully achieved and an overall certificate parchment is given to students that pass all examinations.  Students who are unsuccessful in one of the units may re-sit that unit.
